Frequently asked questions
Why do Rolex watches have nicknames?
Collectors and dealers name references after their colours or a famous association, which is easier to say than a reference number. We match each name to the reference number it belongs to.
Which nicknames do you list as fact?
Only names that at least two independent sources tie to the same reference. Names that sources disagree on are listed separately as disputed, with the references they are sometimes used for.
Can one nickname cover several references?
Yes. A name such as Pepsi is used for more than one reference, so we give it to one page and note on the others that some sources use it too. Always check the reference number, not only the name.
Does a nickname change the price?
Each reference has its own price page. Where we publish a pre-owned range, compare the ranges of the references you are considering rather than assuming a nickname adds or removes anything.
