Choose the size first
The Day-Date comes in three case sizes in our catalog: 36 mm, 40 mm and 41 mm. Most of the older references in the table are 36 mm. Sort by size, shortlist one size, then compare metals and dials within it.
Gold or platinum
Every Day-Date with a recorded case metal in our catalog is gold or platinum. Yellow, white and Everose gold versions often share a model and differ in the last digit of the reference number, so the table is a quick way to see the variants of one model side by side.
Dials and bezels
Dial and bezel options, including gem-set versions, change the price of an individual watch more than the reference number alone suggests. Each reference page lists the dial and bezel recorded in our catalog; check that the watch you are offered matches it.
Before you buy
- Match the reference and serial on the papers to the watch.
- Confirm the case metal and the dial against the reference page.
- Compare the asking price with the sold prices listed on the reference page.
- For the larger picture, see our men's Rolex and Rolex cost pages.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a Rolex Day-Date?
We publish a pre-owned range for 31 of the 84 Day-Date references here. Their midpoints run from $10,400 for the Day-Date 1807 to $72,600 for the Day-Date 40 228236. Metal, dial and any gem-setting move the price of an individual watch most.
Why do some sources call the Day-Date the President?
Some sources use the name President for the Day-Date line and for its bracelet, and sources disagree on which reference it belongs to, so we don't attach it to one reference. Each Day-Date has its own page under its reference number.
What sizes does the Day-Date come in?
The references in our catalog have 36, 40 or 41 mm cases. Sort the table by size to compare them, and note that some older references have no recorded size yet.
Is the Day-Date made in steel?
Not in our catalog: every Day-Date with a recorded case metal is yellow, white or Everose gold, or platinum. The case column of the table shows the metal of each reference as the catalog records it.
Why do most Day-Date references show no price?
We only publish a pre-owned range when enough recent, sourced sale results back it, and many Day-Date references have only a few sales on file. Each reference page shows how many, and its range appears once there are enough.
How do I sell a Rolex Day-Date?
Find the reference number on the papers, note the metal and dial, gather the box and any service records, and compare more than one offer. Our sell form takes four short steps, and we review every request.
Where to buy
- Dealers. Choose one that offers a return period and puts the reference, serial and condition in writing.
- Auction houses. Results are public after the sale, and a buyer's premium is added to the hammer price.
- Private sellers. Meet somewhere safe, check the papers against the watch, and pay in a traceable way.
Wherever you buy, have a watchmaker confirm the movement and serial before any return period ends. Each reference page above shows the recent sold prices we have on file, so you can compare an asking price with what the same reference has sold for.
